More than 400 thalassemia patients are undergoing treatment in Saurashtra’s largest civil hospital, including Rajkot. However, for the past few months, there has been a shortage of Desparal (Desfroximine) injection for thalassemia in the Civil Hospital. Also, as the specialist hematologist doctor for thalassemia is not in civil service, the victims are facing a lot of trouble. Due to which the thalassemia sufferers have raised a demand to remove the shortage of this injection and recruit a doctor.

A hematologist is not a doctor
A young man undergoing treatment for thalassemia said, “I have been receiving treatment at the city’s civil hospital for more than 22 years. Currently, there is a big problem that the civil hospital does not have a blood specialist hematologist doctor. There is no proper guidance regarding which medicine to take and how much to take. Also comes a desparate injection, which has been in short supply for the past few months. By not taking the injection, iron i.e. ferritin is released from our body. Due to which there is a possibility of death due to heart and liver diseases.

450 patients are undergoing treatment
He further said that as about 450 patients like him are currently undergoing treatment in the civil hospital, all of them are facing great difficulty. He also said that as patients from Saurashtra-Kutch besides Rajkot are being treated in the civil hospital, there is a risk of life due to shortage of injections and non-appointment of hematologists. It was also said that it is necessary to remove the shortage of this injection by recruiting hematologists on an immediate basis. Another patient, Poonambane Limbsia, also supported this and demanded immediate action.

Scarcity as only one company makes the injection
Dr. Radheshyam Trivedi, Superintendent of Rajkot Civil Hospital, has admitted the shortage of injections and said that since these injections are made by only one company, they are in short supply everywhere. However, due to constant communication with the company, the stock of the injection will arrive within the next 15 days. Giving a round answer about non-availability of hematologist in civil hospital, he said that children and older patients of thalassemia are getting proper treatment.

If the injection is not taken, the patient is at risk of heart attack
It is worth mentioning that, Desparal injection is given to control ferritin i.e. iron level in thalassemia patients, if the ferritin level goes above 10000 in thalassemic patients, then this injection has to be taken and if the injection is not taken on time, the patient is at risk of heart attack or liver and kidney damage. Lives. As the cost of these injections in the private market is too high, middle and poor patients cannot afford them, some patients have not taken this injection for the last 4 months. However, it is replaced by another company’s medicine, which patients allege is not effective.
