Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One Rakes in Rs. 12 Crore on Day One in India

Tom Cruise’s immense popularity in India was evident as his latest film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, secured a staggering collection of over Rs. 12 crore on its opening day across all languages. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie and featuring Hayley Atwell, the seventh installment in the action-packed franchise follows a mature Ethan Hunt and his IMF team as they strive to dismantle the enigmatic artificial intelligence force known as ‘The Entity.’

Variety projects that ‘MI 7’ is set to earn between $85 million to $95 million in North America and $160 million internationally within its initial five days, resulting in a global opening of $250 million. Notably, Mission: Impossible – Fallout holds the current record with $61 million, followed by 2000’s Mission: Impossible II with $57.8 million.

The film encountered numerous setbacks during its multi-year production, including five halts due to COVID-19, with both Cruise and McQuarrie contracting the virus. Despite these challenges, MI 7 hit theaters on July 12.

Reflecting on returning to the ‘Mission Impossible’ franchise, Cruise expressed, “We talked about it. We dreamed about it. It’s very, very special.” He acknowledged the film’s ambitious nature and the challenges faced during production, emphasizing the significance of the positive audience response.

When questioned about box office expectations, Cruise stated, “I’m just going to make the best films that I can make.” He emphasized his focus on delivering quality and longevity, not solely on box office performance. The film’s release coincides with a period where several summer tentpoles, including The Flash, Elemental, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, have underperformed at the box office.
